1. Your Water Heater is Too Old
As mentioned above, age is the biggest factor for the water heater to become sluggish and less efficient. If you think that your water heater is too old, maybe it’s time to replace it. Most water heaters last for 8 to 10 years max and need replacement after this lifespan.
Also, it is recommended by plumbing experts to replace your water heater after this much time. However, if your water heater is not that old and is still causing problems, you may just need a water heater repair from an expert plumber.
2. Rusty Water Heater or Valve
Most water heaters are made from steel, so they are less likely to get rusted and last for a decade or so. However, sometimes it gets rusted by adverse weather conditions. The rust starts to appear in some places and then starts spreading.
Most of the time, the rust starts from the water inlet valve and spreads to the inside of the water heater tank. The best way to point out this is to notice whether the rust is appearing in hot water from your faucets.
3. Noise From Water Heater
Another sign of an inefficient water heater is noise from the heater tank. It is usually caused due to sediment build-up in the water heater, which leads to disturbing sounds. Water heaters with sediment build-up will also become inefficient and cause hefty electricity or gas bills.
If you or any of your family members are hearing some noise from the water heater, it’s better to get it repaired as soon as possible. However, if the issue still persists after the repair, you will have to replace your water heater.
4. Leaking Water Heater
Leaking water heater is also a sign that it is due for a replacement or repair. Leaking will usually happen when the water heater has aged well or is rusted from the inside or outside. It won’t only cause a waste of water but will also result in property damage.
The leaks are generally caused due to the expansion of metal from inside due to being subjected to high temperatures. In some cases, the tanks are leaking because the connections are not fitted well, or there is more pressure on the overflow pipe.
If this is actually the case, you will have to call the plumber and address the issue as soon as possible.
